Since 1959, I have spent my free time playing piano. I am a fan of classical, popular, and ragtime music. Famous musician Scott Joplin was the inspiration for the name of my company.
After I retired from the US Air Force in 1997, I decided to learn what was on the other side of the keyboard. I wanted to find out what makes a piano play, what is takes to make it sound great, why it sometimes doesn't work, and how to share my love of music.
As an employee of Prosser Piano and Organ Company in Tacoma from 1997 to 2005, I learned a number of important skills. I then ventured out on my own to start Ragtime Piano Service.
In 1998, I became an associate member of the Piano Technicians Guild. I passed three rigorous PTG examinations in 2013 to receive my credentials as a "Registered Piano Technician." These tests required me to demonstrate my knowledge of piano technology, technical skill at repairs and regulation, and tuning at an expert level. After serving as my local PTG's Chapter's Secretary and Vice President, I now hold the position of Chapter President.
In addition to working in your home, office waiting room, theaters, concert halls, and meeting areas, I reach out to help education facilities. I currently work with the Clover Park School District in Lakewood to maintain the pianos in their elementary, middle, and high schools.
